Passion of Christ, Passion of the Church

Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
Legionario, April 6, 1941 - Excerpts (*)
Parish’s church in Altötting (Bayern)
Amidst the current sufferings of the Mystical Body of Christ, our Holy Mother Church, presently under fierce attack from internal and external enemies, let us follow some thoughts of Prof. Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira, who always brought Our Lord’s Passion, an event of 2000 years ago, into current focus during his Lenten lectures.
There is often a defect in our meditations that diminishes their effectiveness. It is to ponder episodes from the life of Our Lord without linking them to our lives and to what happens around us.
Accordingly, we are shocked at the inconsistency and ingratitude of the Jews, when, shortly after having honored Jesus with a solemn procession as Savior they crucified Him with a hatred many find hard to understand.
The Jews of 2000 years ago, when Our Lord walked the earth, are not alone in exhibiting this ingratitude and inconsistency. Still today, in the hearts …Doliwat

Consistory Run Like the Synod: Only two hours are reserved for open interventions during the Consistory on 26–27 June. The majority of the meeting is structured around small-group discussions. The cardinals are divided into 20 groups, each of which prepares a written report. Only nine groups are scheduled to present their reports in the plenary session. Discussion of the Just War doctrine was anticipated based on earlier Vatican communications, but it is absent from the final agenda. Cardinals can communicate directly with Leo XIV via an email address provided for this purpose.

Here's what will happen at next week's Vatican Consistory

VATICAN CITY (PerMariam) — Details of the upcoming consistory reveal that just around two hours are outlined for the customary free discussion between cardinals and the Pope, whilst strict confidentiality and media silence is ordered on the participants.
In an exclusive published by reliably-sourced outlet Messa in Latino on Wednesday morning, more precise details about next week’s Extraordinary Consistory were provided. A letter sent to the cardinals was published, containing both the daily itinerary and formal instructions for the cardinals to adhere to.
Running chiefly on June 26 and 27, the consistory also includes the June 29 Mass marking the feast of Saints Peter and Paul.

Historic Cathedral, Now a Parish Church, Abused for Political Dinner: On June 12 and 13, a 'Heavenly Dinner' was held in St. Andrä’s former cathedral, the historic episcopal church of the now-defunct Diocese of Lavant in Austria. Today, the Cathedral serves as a parish church. Several local restaurateurs jointly prepared the dinner, while local politicians and other guests dined inside the church. Before the meal, a table prayer was recited. As host, Dean Fr. Gerfried Sitar welcomed the guests. During the evening, the clergyman was also awarded the Gold Plaque of the City of St. Andrä.

Who could forget John Vennari. I listened to every talk and conference he had. Any time he was a guest on another show. And of course watched all or most of his show on The Fatima Center. When The Fatima Center was worth it. Without John and Father Gruner, the show died with them. In the first post the owner of the this Catholic site wrote:
On Tuesday, April 4, the day of the week dedicated to the Holy Face and in the month dedicated to the Holy Face, John Vennari died. There is no way that this date was incidental as there is no coincidence with God and Our Lady. Mr. Vennari had a great devotion to the Holy Face and made a point to publish articles regularly on the practice of the devotion to Our Lord's Holy Face and the efficacy of such a devotion.
I was taught and heard that anyone who is born or dies on a great Feast Day is a good sign for that person. Anyone else ever hear of it? I am highlighting what she wrote for a reason.

On Tuesday, April 4, the day of the week dedicated to the Holy Face and in the month dedicated to the Holy Face, John Vennari died. Mr. Vennari had a great devotion to the Holy Face and made a point to publish articles regularly on the practice of the devotion to Our Lord's Holy Face and the efficacy of such a devotion.
I only met this extraordinary man once, long ago at a Catholic conference in New Jersey. I had become a wanderer of sorts, lost in the deluge of the new orientation spawned by Vatican II enthusiasts and did not know where to turn. A Traditionalist met me at a pro-life meeting and befriended me as did his friends. His first act of kindness after that was to take me to that conference. It re-introduced the Catholic Faith to me and I was never the same again.

Bishop Appointed by Leo XIV Backs ‘Female Pope’ Campaign The Diocese of St. Gallen, Switzerland, launched its "I’m In" ("Ich bin dabei") campaign on May 4 across 25 towns and villages. The billboard, web and social media campaign features clergy, church employees and volunteers posing provocative questions. One poster shows a pastoral worker asking: “Shall we pave the way for the election of the first female Pope?” — followed by the campaign’s signature response: "I’m in." When a bird found shelter in a Capuchin friar’s habit | Shalom World News
Sometimes, God’s most beautiful messages arrive not through grand events, but through the quiet wonders of creation. At the Capuchin Monastery in Kottayam, Kerala, India, a land blessed by the visit of Pope St. John Paul II in 1986 and near the birthplace of St. Alphonsa, the first female saint of India, an extraordinary moment unfolded. A small bulbul bird, known for its sweet song and gentle presence, found a most unexpected shelter to begin a new life: the hood of a Capuchin friar’s habit. Fr. Jinu Mandiyil had hung his religious habit to dry. When he returned days later, he discovered a sight that filled the monastery with wonder — a tiny nest resting inside the hood, with newborn chicks waiting for their mother’s care. The friars watched with joy as the mother bird returned, feeding her little ones inside the folds of the garment dedicated to the service of God. Moved by the beauty of the moment, Fr. Jinu …Doliwat

Masses Denied at Multiple Italian Shrines for FSSP

Rorate-Caeli.blogspot.com published on June 16 a report about a recent pilgrimage in Italy with a priest of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP).
- This group was denied the celebration of Mass at the Shrine of San Giovanni Rotondo (Padre Pio) and instead celebrated Mass in a hotel basement.
- At the Basilica in Assisi, they were also denied permission to celebrate Mass in Latin, and they noted that an Orthodox Divine Liturgy was taking place at the same time.
- At Loreto, the group was initially denied permission to celebrate Mass, but the priest was finally able to convince the local authorities. However, in Loreto, there was a station for 'Dialogue and Listening' (pictured). Rather than a priest, a nun was 'listening' without a veil and wearing some kind of Roman collar.

WHITE SMOKE 1958 -25- The TRAITORS

Second possibility:
It is likely that there were traitors in the 1958 conclave, certainly in small numbers: two or three were enough to manipulate the fifty or so cardinals! There are always traitors, as history teaches us that there were some in the conclave that elected St. Pius X, and in the more distant one that elected Paul IV or St. Pius V, I don't remember exactly. But, as we see in these two examples, the Holy Spirit knew how to remove them, the rules of the conclave having been well respected. So, the fact that there were traitors in 1958 is nothing extraordinary; what is extraordinary is that in this case they apparently succeeded in their maneuvers.

Leo XIV Against Remigration of Migrants: Asked about “remigration” of immigrants, Pope Leo XIV replied on Tuesday in Castel Gandolfo: “Simply saying, ‘We send them away, and then the problem is off our hands,’ does not seem to me to be the most Christian response.” He said migrants should be respected as persons, their reasons for leaving considered, and their cases examined individually.

Leo XIV to the FSSPX: "Do Not Do This": On Tuesday evening in Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV was asked about the the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX). He replied: "We have invited them, and I am still considering making another appeal, saying: 'Do not do this. Let us try to live in communion within the Church.' But it is their choice. One must realize what it means for them and for the Church. Certainly, division among Christians is always something painful. However, they refuse to accept certain fundamental elements of the Church, beginning with several points of the Second Vatican Council. If they make that choice, I am sorry, but we must move forward."

Cistercian Abbot: Vocations Decline Because We Became Tasteless Salt

In our time, authority is deeply discredited, both in society and in the Church, whether because of excess or deficiency. This was said by Father Francisco Rivera, 46, on June 14 in an interview with VidaNuevaDigital.com.
He was elected on May 20 as the new abbot of the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María de Huerta in Soria, Spain. It is one of Spain’s great monasteries and one of the most important historic houses of the Cistercian Order.
Father Rivera acknowledged that the number of vocations has declined drastically: “We can blame the world, its values or lack of them, young people, social media, and so on. But I believe consecrated life must also undertake a rigorous examination of conscience. Perhaps we have become a kind of tasteless salt. And we know what the Lord Jesus says in the Gospel about that.”
For the new abbot, the best vocation campaign is “to live, in our case, a serious and coherent monastic life, in fidelity to our monastic commitments and to the Rule of Saint …Doliwat

1,126,760 Babies Killed in Abortions in 2025 as Mail-Order Abortions Skyrocket - LifeNews.com

This month, the #WeCount project by the Society of Family Planning released final abortion estimates for calendar year 2025. Unfortunately, the news is not particularly good for pro-lifers.
The Society of Family Planning estimates that 1,126,760 abortions took place in calendar year 2025. This represents a 1.6 percent increase from 2024. Overall, the Society of Family Planning numbers are broadly consistent with the abortion estimates that have been released by the Guttmacher Institute.
Unsurprisingly, the #WeCount figures show that telehealth abortions are playing a large role in this abortion increase.

Cardinal Camillo Ruini Dies at 95

Cardinal Camillo Ruini, an influential churchmen in Italy, died in Rome on the evening of June 16 at age 95.
He had been hospitalized last September with kidney problems and, after an initial recovery, saw his condition worsen in recent weeks. He chose to remain at home under medical care.
Born in Sassuolo, in the province of Modena, Ruini was ordained a priest in 1954.
He became auxiliary bishop of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla in 1983 and secretary-general of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI) in 1986.
In 1991, Pope St. John Paul II appointed him to lead the Italian Bishops' Conference, named him Vicar General of Rome, and created him a cardinal. He held the Rome vicariate until 2008 and led the bishops’ conference until 2007.
He became, for nearly two decades, one of the closest collaborators of both John Paul II and later Benedict XVI.

Trump praises Putin and Xi over Iran peace deal

Moscow has repeatedly urged Washington and Tehran to de-escalate while maintaining contact with all parties in the conflict
US President Donald Trump has praised Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping for their roles in bringing about a
peace settlement with Iran. Moscow has repeatedly offered its mediation services and urged all sides to de-escalate.
Trump made the remarks on Sunday in an interview with the New York Times, hours after he announced that Washington and Tehran have reached a Pakistani- and Qatari-mediated deal to end the conflict.
According to several media reports, a 14-point memorandum of understanding includes provisions on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, easing of US sanctions, and unfreezing of Iranian assets, with a formal signing ceremony to take place in Geneva on Friday. Iran is also expected to reaffirm its pledge to abstain from nuclear weapons, with final nuclear talks to conclude within 60 days.

Leo XIV convenes the cardinals: confidential note sets out programme and calls for discretion

Vatican City - A confidential briefing note, dated 16 June and accompanied by the detailed schedule of proceedings, has reached the members of the Sacred College in recent hours. It confirms the convocation of the Extraordinary Consistory, called by Leo XIV for 26 and 27 June 2026, and sets out its programme, method and - with an insistence that is hardly accidental - the requirements of confidentiality.
The document begins from a programmatic premise: since his election, the Pope has expressed his wish to draw upon “the wealth of experience and wisdom” of the College. The two days are therefore conceived not as a deliberative assembly, but as a time of fraternal exchange around some of the challenges that today confront the life and mission of the Church.
The four sessions
The proceedings are structured around four main moments, divided between the Paul VI Hall and the New Synod Hall.
