Fr Michael Mary of the Transalpine Redemptorist group at Papa Stronsay, Scotland, will receive an unauthorized “episcopal consecration” on July 25. The community announced this on June 18 on the monastery's blog. The candidate is the founder and superior of the group. He is rumoured to foster a personality cult around himself. Leo XIV intends to visit Peru during the first half of November, Peruvian President José María Balcázar announced following a private audience with the Pope. Peru would be the centerpiece of a broader South American tour that may also include Argentina and Uruguay. Although the Vatican has not yet published an official itinerary, Balcázar said Leo XIV personally confirmed that he plans to be in Peru in November. The proposed itinerary would include Lima, Chiclayo, Piura, Pucallpa and Cusco, with additional visits to Puno and Iquitos also under consideration. The visit could last between eight and ten days. Balcázar said Peru has offered helicopters to assist the Pope in reaching remote towns in northern Peru and the Amazon region, reflecting his desire to visit as many local communities as possible. These include a large banner and a rainbow crosswalk on St. Joseph Street. The encyclical Magnifica Humanitas is internally inconsistent in its treatment of just war theory. That writes Manfred Spieker, emeritus professor of Christian Social Sciences, on Herder.de on June 16. While he generally praises Leo XIV’s reflections on artificial intelligence, he challenges the encyclical’s call to “overcome” the traditional doctrine of just war. Magnifica Humanitas, drawing on Fratelli Tutti, offers two reasons for moving beyond just war theory: first, that nearly every war in recent decades has been presented as justified, and second, that modern weapons make war an unacceptable solution. Spieker finds neither argument convincing. Regarding the first, he writes: “If everyone who wages a war appeals to this doctrine, it remains necessary to examine who is justified in doing so and who is not.” He adds: “Those who falsely invoke this doctrine will face criticism or rejection. Jesuit Provincial Fr. Enric Puiggròs said the closure is part of a "restructuring" driven by a lack of vocations and the aging of the order's members. The Jesuits' presence in Murcia goes back to the 16th century, shortly after the founding of the Society of Jesus in 1540.

Historic Cathedral, Now a Parish Church, Abused for Political Dinner: On June 12 and 13, a 'Heavenly Dinner' was held in St. Andrä’s former cathedral, the historic episcopal church of the now-defunct Diocese of Lavant in Austria. Today, the Cathedral serves as a parish church. Several local restaurateurs jointly prepared the dinner, while local politicians and other guests dined inside the church. Before the meal, a table prayer was recited. As host, Dean Fr. Gerfried Sitar welcomed the guests. During the evening, the clergyman was also awarded the Gold Plaque of the City of St. Andrä.
